Citizens asked to report sightings of fire ants near city electrical equipment

The City of Morganton Electric Department is asking citizens to keep an eye out for fire ants near any city electrical equipment such as utility poles or transformer boxes. Believe it or not, fire ants are known to eat the rubber insulation in and around electrical equipment possibly causing power outages.
