This position enforces city ordinances, state statutes, and federal laws within the scope of animal control.  Duties include patrolling the City, responding to calls for service, investigating complaints of stray, wild and domestic animals, and investigating reports of animal bites and dangerous animals. 

The ideal candidate must have strong communication skills and be able to handle situations with the public with professionalism and tact.  Position requires accurate preparation of reports and maintaining records of animal control incidents.    Will possess or quickly gain considerable knowledge of state and federal laws and local ordinances relating to rabies, animal control, confinement of animals, and animal welfare.  Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently to move objects.  Graduation from high school, and experience involving contact with the public & experience in handling and caring for preferable.  Must possess a North Carolina driver’s license. Required to have or be willing to obtain euthanasia technician (including Chemical Immobilization) within 6 months of hire.  The position would also require the Rabies Vaccinator Certification and completion of the Animal Control Officer class within a reasonable amount of time after hire.

Salary range is $34,341 – $51,512. Open until filled, with first review of applications beginning July 3rd.  EOE
