The City of Morganton’s Community House is a state-of-the-art venue that hosts a wide range of events - from clubs and civic groups to larger-scale events such as weddings and corporate meetings. The Community House provides the facilities, technologies, and banquet services to accommodate most events.  The City and Staff take pride in providing exceptional service and high-quality cuisine at an affordable price point. The Business / Event Development Coordinator is responsible for the marketing, sales, and event coordination for the Community House. Duties include:

  • Marketing the Community House to increase sales and events.
  • Handling inquiries regarding facility information, uses, purposes, & contract fees.
  • Partnering with customers to define event details, identify needs, and agree upon services.
  • Managing administration functions, including creating contracts, setting sales goals, budget maintenance, and generating reports illustrating the financial and operational performance of the venue.

The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills – great tact, courtesy, and a strong customer focus are essential; keeping the other team members informed is a must.   The ability to function as of the part of the team and display the willingness and ability to perform any task needed to ensure a successful event.  Strong organizational and office administrative skills are also required.  The nature of this position does require weekend and evening work as events necessitate.

Education and work experience needed are similar to those gained through post-secondary education in business, hospitality, or a related field; a related professional certification, such as Certified Meeting Planner (CMP); or a combination of education, experience, and relevant training.
