The City of Morganton’s Community House is a state-of-the-art venue that hosts a wide range of events - from clubs and civic groups to larger-scale events such as weddings and corporate meetings. The Community House provides the facilities, technologies, and banquet services to accommodate most events.  The City and Staff take pride in providing exceptional service and high-quality cuisine at an affordable price point. We are looking for an energetic, creative, and organized new team member to join us as the Community House Cook!

This position serves as head cook and assistant to the chef in performing food service and related functions.  Duties include:

  • Preparing food for scheduled events (including day, evenings, and nights);
  • Adjusting menu selections based on customer requests and dietary restrictions;
  • Maintaining a clean and safe kitchen up to Health Department and OSHA standards;
  • Planning and determining amounts of food required to service the scheduled events and assisting in ordering and maintaining appropriate inventory;
  • Receiving and storing food orders and supplies;
  • Supervising and guiding part time kitchen staff

The successful candidate will have considerable knowledge of commercial kitchen operations, cooking and kitchen equipment and tools, as well as sanitation requirements.  Knowledge and skills in food preparation and cooking of meats, vegetables and desserts in variable quantities and using various methods.  Strong communication skills and a displayed commitment and ability to perform as part of the team to perform any task needed to ensure a successful event.  The nature of this position does require weekend and evening work as events necessitate.

Six months to one year of directly related experience or combination of education, experience, and relevant training that provide the requisite skills is required.  Valid NC Driver’s License is required; ServSafe Manager Certification or ability to obtain it within six months of hire is required.     

Pay range begins at $18.20 an hour ($37,861 annual equivalent).  This is a full-time job with City benefits.  First review of applications will be on Friday, January 27th, but opened until we find the right person!
