Maintenance Worker - Cemetery & Grounds

This position performs a variety of duties to include maintaining City's cemeteries, streets, parks and municipal grounds. Operates riding lawn mowers, push mowers, weed eaters, and edgers to maintain lawns. Uses aerators and applies grass seed, lime and fertilizer as needed. Trims and prunes trees and shrubbery. Plants, waters and maintains flowers, shrubs and trees in parks and uptown planters and streetscapes. Rakes and picks up leaves, trash and debris. Mulches around trees, shrubs and flower beds. Operates trucks to haul equipment, supplies and materials and to pick up plants and trees from nurseries and greenhouses. Assists in making repairs to the irrigation systems such as replacing sprinkler heads, finding and repairing broken pipes and light electrical work. Assists in maintaining and repairing the City's fountains, at times, performing basic plumbing repair, masonry repair and painting. Assists in basic carpentry duties in the City's cemeteries and grounds. Assists in cemetery duties such as laying off graves. Cleans cemetery office and empties trash throughout City's cemeteries and parks. Operates a wide variety of hand tools and power tools. Follows relevant safety practices and procedures for each given task. Performs routine maintenance and repair work on tools, machinery, equipment and vehicles. Must be able to perform heavy manual work in varying weather conditions. Ability to lift 75 lbs. safely and be able to bend, stoop and climb in a variety of construction and maintenance situations. Must have a driver's license. Starting salary is: $ 26,251.00   Open until filled.
