We are hiring a partner to keep downtown Morganton beautiful! The Public Works Department is seeking a detailed-oriented, motivated, responsible individual who can work independently, identify issues, change tasks quickly, and manage time effectively to make sure things get done. The successful candidate will take pride in their work and see the way the downtown looks as a reflection of themselves.  The position is responsible for maintaining downtown right-of-ways, streets, sidewalks and city-owned parking areas throughout the downtown area.  Job duties include mowing, weed-trimming, spraying, leaf collection, litter pickup, pressure washing, and similar maintenance tasks.   Work involves use of light equipment, including lawn mower, leaf blower, backpack sprayer, pressure washer and various hand tools.  While the position typically works independently, the position has significant public interaction and works closely with the City’s Main Street department, so interpersonal skill and polite interactions with the public is essential. 

This positions primary focus will be in the downtown area but will serve as backup in other areas in the street division as needed.  Class B CDL license and pesticide spray licenses preferred.

Starting salary: $ 31,149.  Open until filled.
