The City of Morganton is a vibrant and energized city located in the foothills of North Carolina with scenic rural landscapes and abundant outdoor adventure opportunities which makes us “Nature’s Playground”.  Morganton is also home to over 400 acres of spectacular municipals parks including two aquatics facilities, baseball fields, a soccer complex and an expanding Greenway system.  The recreation department is held in high esteem with historically strong support from the community.  The City is seeking a team oriented, community-focused, well-organized, energetic professional to create, plan, coordinate and execute a wide array of programs to enhance and enrich the recreation opportunities for our citizens.  This is a full-time, year-round position. 

The Programs Supervisor will be responsible for developing and executing programs for youth, adults, and seniors; training & supervising part time weight room and building staff; and supporting general administration of the Recreation Department. 

The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills – great tact, courtesy and diplomacy are essential.  The ability to function as part of the “City Team”, as well as displaying leadership skills to be decisive enough to make good independent decisions and sound judgment are a must.   Strong organization, planning, and time management skills are a must to manage the diverse programs and responsibilities.

Education and work experience needed are similar to those gained through some related post-secondary education and / or considerable work experience in recreation programming; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.  Pay range starts at $21.07/ hour ($43,829 annually).
