 An employee in this class performs journey level mechanical work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of large and specialized equipment and machinery in water treatment plant and distribution system. Work involves troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of a variety of pumps and motors, gearboxes, valves and other equipment in the water treatment plant and distribution system.  Work requires knowledge of trade skills in mechanical and plumbing areas with some knowledge of electrical and electronic repairs.  Work is performed under regular supervision. Work is evaluated in terms of effectiveness, in returning equipment to proper operating conditions within given time schedules, and overall effectiveness of system performance. Work may be performed during inclement weather. Graduation from high school supplemented by courses in mechanical or plumbing trades, and experience in water and sewer treatment and/or pumping station equipment maintenance and repair; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is desired.  The applicant must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.  Salary range $ 37,861 - $56,792.
