This position is the Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) and is responsible for the supervision and planning for the water treatment plant and associated facilities that provides safe, potable water for over 10,000 customers in the Morganton area.  Duties include planning and assigning work to subordinates, inspecting the operations of the plant through observation and monitoring laboratory results, ensuring proper preventive maintenance and repairs, overseeing the operations of a state-certified laboratory, and supervising the maintenance of pump stations.  Work also involves developing long and short-term capital projects, compiling information on needed resources for budgeting, and regulatory record keeping and reporting.  The successful candidate will have effective management skills, strong decision-making abilities, and capable of motivating, coaching, and ensuring effective productivity of division personnel.  Work involves public relations, initiative and judgment.  Work is performed under general supervision as to matters of policy, budget, long range plans, personnel matters, and work priorities.  Graduation from high school; an Associate’s degree in environmental science, chemistry, biology, hydrology, water & wastewater engineering or related study is desired or knowledge gained through equivalent experience in water treatment.  Must have a level A – Surface operator Certification.  Salary range $50,738 - $76,107, with starting salary dependent on experience.  Position open until filled, but first review of applications will be June 1.
