Zoning Technician - Code Enforcement Officer
The City of Morganton is seeking a team-oriented, organized, self-motivated individual to help keep Morganton beautiful!
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Conducts field inspections to investigates violations and citizen complaints regarding potential violations of city codes and ordinances including zoning, nuisance, property maintenance
- Documents and retains records of complaints, investigations, and actions taken
- Provides information to the public regarding complaints and enforcement of ordinances
- Assesses Zoning Applications and issues permits for minor developments related to single-family dwellings
- Assesses Sign Applications and issues permits
- Answers questions and provides clear and courteous advice to citizens, contractors, and other service professionals, as well as other City departments, on matters related to zoning codes and ordinances
- Ability to become thoroughly knowledgeable of technical ordinances, codes and regulations pertaining to land use, zoning, watershed, and nuisances
This position requires tact in dealing with the public, strong attention to detail and documentation, and proper adherence to procedure. Desired qualifications include: Associate’s degree in Urban Planning, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Landscape Architecture or related field or equivalent; one to four years of experience in code enforcement, planning, or a related field. Possession of a valid NC Driver’s License and a good driving record is required. The successful candidate will possess NC Zoning Official Certification or have the ability to attain the certification within two years.
Salary range is $41,742 – $62,613; starting salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
