Saturday, December 9th, the Mountain View Recreation Gymnasium could be mistaken for Santa’s workshop at the North Pole with children, toys, cookies, smiles and laughter and Santa himself!

Morganton Public Safety held their 39th annual Blue Elves Christmas to help out families in need. Families living in the Morganton Housing Authority are invited to come to the event.

Lt. Tayler Alexander with MDPS said, “If you live in the Morganton Housing Authority and you have a child between 0-16 years old you have the opportunity to pick out Christmas gifts for them. You can also see Santa and interact with several Public Safety personnel and volunteers.”

This event would not be possible if it were not for several partnerships including Toys for Tots. They provide all the toys for children 0-12 years old.

Other organizations and businesses who helped support the event were Bath and Body Works (Morganton location), New Dimensions Charter School, Papa John's and Chick fila of Morganton for providing breakfast and lunch at a discounted rate for volunteers, Morganton-Burke Lodge #23 Fraternal Order of Police, Carolina Chiropractic Care of Morganton, Western Piedmont Community College Business Office, Mt. Home Church small group "GBU", Morganton Savings Bank, Morganton Needle Work, Pepsi Cola Inc., Mountain View Rec pickle ball members, Atrium Health (Fiddlers Run), Walmart Morganton Store #1060, Dick's Sporting Goods of Morganton, Big Lots of Morganton, Ollies of Morganton, our community during our two "fill the cruiser" events at Walmart, Morganton Housing Authority employees, MDPS Explorers, on and off-duty MDPS personnel and their family members/friends, Mountain View Rec employees, Morganton Parks and Recreation Department and Retired Lt. Massey (who played the part of Santa).

Alexander said, “Many people just dropped by Headquarters and left toys for us and did not leave names. As you can see we are always fortunate to have a lot of help for this event because it is really special to our agency, employees and community.”

Public Safety Chief Jason Whisnant said, “This event is one that we look forward to each and every year simply because of the joy it brings to families. I applaud our Special Operations Division for all their hard work from start to finish. The result of Blue Elves is priceless to us and to these families.”
