Disturbance call leads to Morganton man arrested for robbery

On October 4, 2023 at approximately 2:50 p.m., Morganton Public Safety Officers were dispatched to the Dollar General Store at 545 E Fleming Drive in reference to a disturbance. During the investigation it was determined that Tom Xayavong of 470 Settlemeyer Rd had caused a disturbance inside the store.

During the disturbance Xayavong stole a cash register that contained an undisclosed amount of money and exited the store. Officers made contact with Xayavong as he was attempting to leave the property in a vehicle. Xayavong was arrested on scene and Morganton Public Safety’s Criminal Investigation Division was contacted for further investigation.

The investigation determined that Xayavong caused approximately $3000.00 of damage to the store during the robbery. Xayavong also assaulted a store clerk in his attempt to leave the scene. Xayavong is being held at the Burke County Jail with no bond until his first appearance on October 5, 2023. Xayavong was charged with Common Law Robbery and Felony Larceny. More charges are expected as the investigation continues.
