A traffic stop initiated for a headlight and stoplight violation resulted in a chase that ended in Davie County early Wednesday morning. Around 2:23 am, PSO Triplett attempted to pull over a passenger car, driven by Jimmy Wyatt, 61 of Morganton. Wyatt refused to stop. The vehicle struck stop sticks 4 separate times and continued to travel on the Interstate at moderate speeds with one tire intact. The pursuit was eventually terminated by Morganton Public Safety and North Carolina State Highway Patrol continued to follow the vehicle until it came to a stop off the roadway near Exit 170. Wyatt jumped out of the vehicle and fled into the woods and was quickly located by NC SHP. He was cited by them for various charges and also faces the following charges from Morganton Public Safety:

  • Felony Flee to Elude Arrest
  • Speeding
  • Reckless Driving to Endanger
  • Stoplight Violation
  • Headlight Violation
  • Failure to Maintain Lane Control

Morganton Public Safety thanks all the agencies involved in this multi-county pursuit that assisted this morning.
