Man Charged with Kidnapping and Felony Assault
On May 18th, 2020, Officers with the Morganton Department of Public Safety responded to the Burke County Magistrates office in reference to an assault. Upon arrival, Officers made contact with a female victim who had been physically assaulted. Officers called for EMS to respond to the scene to check on the female. During the investigation, it was learned that Johnithyn Thomas Bristol, 27, of Morganton was named as a suspect in this case. Officers documented the injuries to the female and consulted with the Burke County Magistrate regarding charges against Bristol. A warrant was issued for Mr. Bristol who was currently on Probation. Officers made contact with Probation Officers and with their assistance, located Bristol in the downtown area. Bristol had just been released from Lincoln County after being charged with Driving While Impaired. Morganton Department of Public Safety Officers took Bristol into custody without any further incident. Bristol was transported to the Magistrates office,
Where he was charged with the following:
- Kidnapping (F)
- Assault by Strangulation (F)
- Assault on a Female
- Injury to Personal Property
- Domestic Violence Protection Order Violation
Bristol received a $100,000 secured bond in four (4) of the five (5) charges and did not receive a bond for the DVPO Violation. Bristol is scheduled to have a first appearance on May 20, 2021.
