Public Safety to promote bike safety at Bike Rodeo

As summer winds down, Morganton Public Safety wants to help make sure kids have one more chance to practice bicycle safety.

On September 23 from 10am-noon at Catawba Meadows Park they will be hosting a Bike Rodeo. This event is free to attend. There will be a bike course setup for kids to ride through that practices several ways to be safe when riding a bike on the road or on an outdoor trail. Public Safety officers will be assisting kids through the course and teaching about bike safety gear. It is encouraged to bring your own bicycle due to having a limited amount available to borrow. They will also be giving away a limited amount of bicycle helmets.

Morganton Public Safety Police Chief Jason Whisnant said, “Our bike rodeos focus on bicycle rider safety and awareness. We want to encourage young people to get into the habit of wearing a helmet, following the rules of the road/trail and, of course, having fun. Our local Pilot Club and Walmart are great community partners in encouraging bicycle safety and head injury prevention. Please come join us for a great time of learning and fun!”

The Bike Rodeo is made possible by Morganton Public Safety police and fire divisions and Safe Kids Worldwide. We want to thank Walmart for donating the helmets and for the Pilot Club of Morganton for their support as well.
