Suspect arrested while hiding from police after breaking into local business.

On Sunday, November 12, 2023, Morganton Department of Public Safety officers received an alarm call at 115 Stonebridge Dr of Morganton.  Officers arrived on scene and checked the business and located a broken glass door to the business.  A thorough search of the building did not yield any suspects.  While securing the scene and awaiting a key holder, officers checked the surrounding woods behind the location. 

Two computers and other electronic equipment items taken from the business were located stashed near the fence behind the business.  Directly behind those items, a male suspect was located hiding behind a fallen tree.  The male suspect was taken into custody and identified as Benjamin Jorge-Xiloj, 26, of Morganton. 

Jorge-Xiloj was arrested and charged with Felony Breaking and Entering and Felony Larceny after Breaking and Entering.  Jorge-Xiloj has a court date of Monday, November 13, 2023 at 9am and is being held under a $10,000.00 secured bond at the Burke County Jail. Jorge-Xiloj has a prior charge of breaking and entering to a place of worship from earlier in 2023.
