Public Safety SWAT Team patch

The SWAT Team consists of a tactical team and a negotiation team. There are currently four negotiators within the department. There are 10 allotted positions for tactical team members. Of the 10 SWAT members, two are cross trained as snipers. There are currently two additional positions: one is a medic and another is a technician. Both the medic and technician are sworn officers.

Incidents that may result in the activation of the SWAT Team include:

  • Barricaded suspects who refuse an order to surrender.
  • Incidents where hostages are taken.
  • Individuals who are threatening suicide and have refused to surrender.
  • Arrests of potentially armed or dangerous persons.
  • High risk arrest/search warrants.
  • High risk woodland tracking operations.
  • Any situation that could threaten or undermine the ability of the Department to preserve life, maintain social order and ensure the protection of persons or property.
