Traffic stop leads to drug charges

On October 25, 2021 at approximately 12:30am, Officers with the Morganton Department of Public Safety conducted a vehicle stop on a Black Ford Expedition for displaying a fictitious registration plate and several moving violations. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Christopher Lee Stamper, 41, of Moravian Falls. Stamper’s license was suspended and he was showing signs of impairment. A search of the vehicle resulted in numerous baggies of Methamphetamine (12.3 grams) being located along with a glass smoking pipe and another homemade smoking device. Stamper was transported to the Burke County Magistrates office where he was charged with the following:

  • Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver Methamphetamine
  • Driving While Impaired
  • Driving During Revocation
  • Give, Lend or Borrow a Registration Plate
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Stamper received a $3,000 secured bond and was given a first appearance court date on October 25th, 2021.
