********UPDATED July 20, 2021 at 2:06 p.m

MDPS Criminal Investigator’s followed up on this case and were able to identify the suspect in this case as Cordarrel Chris Anderson DOB 11/22/1986 of Zephyrhills, FL. Anderson had committed multiple crimes across several different states before being apprehended in Georgia.

Cordarrel Chris Anderson was reported as the suspect in a motor vehicle theft of a white 2002 Toyota Camry in Zephyrhills, Florida on the evening of 07/13/2021. The following morning, a house in Gainesville, Florida was broken into where many items were taken from the residence. Anderson was quickly found to be the likely suspect in this case. He was believed to be driving a black Toyota Camry around the same year and model as the one stolen in Zephyrhills.

Several days later on the morning of 07/17/2021 in Franklin, Virginia, a pile of documents, identification cards, clothes, and other items were found in a driveway and had been set on fire sometime during the night. One of the identification cards found in the pile of debris belonged to the breaking and entering victim in Gainesville, Florida.

Later that night, Anderson checked into the Quality Inn on S Sterling St in Morganton, NC driving what appeared to be an older freshly spray painted black Toyota Camry. Anderson went back to the front desk of the hotel a few hours later between 1:00 and 2:00 in the morning on 07/18/2021 and said he needed to check out of his room. At the time, he was openly carrying a holstered handgun on his right side. When the employee walked away from the counter to go check his room, Anderson crawled onto the counter, opened the cash drawer, and grabbed the money. The employee saw what he was doing and came back inside. She tried yelling for him to stop but Anderson ran out the door shouting life threatening commands for her to stay away.  Anderson had locked the keys in the vehicle and had to reach into the back passenger side door to unlock the car before crawling into the driver’s seat from the back seat. Anderson then fled in the stolen vehicle down Hwy 18 S.

On the morning of 07/20/2021, Anderson was observed in Jefferson County, Georgia driving the same black Toyota Camry. An attempt was made to conduct a vehicle stop on Anderson when he fled. A vehicle chase ensued and Anderson eventually wrecked the vehicle and was taken to the local hospital for his injuries. The vehicle he was driving was confirmed as the stolen vehicle from Zephyrhills, Florida.

He is expected to make a full recovery and face his charges in North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, and possibly other states.

A warrant was issued for Cordarrel Chris Anderson by MDPS Criminal Investigators for N.C.G.S. 14-87, Robbery with Dangerous Weapon. This warrant will be served on him once he is extradited back to North Carolina.
