Vehicle Pursuit Leads to DWI and Narcotics Arrest

On 6/25/21 Morganton Public Safety Officers were conducting a license checking station on Jamestown Rd near Carbon Dr. At approximately 10:40 pm. Officers observed a red GMC truck approaching. Officers observed the truck weaving within its lane of travel and partially run off the right side of the road. When the truck approached Officers at the checking station it failed to stop and quickly accelerated through the checking station. Officers followed the vehicle in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle accelerated through a red light and officers began a vehicle pursuit. The driver, Jason Dewayne Messer led officers on a short pursuit that resulted in him crashing the GMC truck in the parking lot of Walgreens on N Green St. Messer was apprehended at the scene of the crash. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. During the investigation it was determined that Messer was impaired driving. Messer was also found in possession of Methamphetamine, Marijuana and other paraphernalia. Messer was charged with Felony Speed to Elude, Possession of Methamphetamine, DWI, Possession of Marijuana as well as several other traffic violations. Messer was placed under a $44,000.00 bond and is being held in the Burke County Jail.
