The City of Morganton is seeking a team-oriented, organized Building Inspector who is technically sound and strong in public relations.  Position performs highly technical work in plan review and field inspections of construction, alterations, repairs, and renovations for compliance with State and local codes and ordinances regulating building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing.   Position requires attention to detail, good communication skills, and thorough knowledge of construction law & codes.

Pay range and starting salary are dependent on current certificates held, with a minimum of at least one Level II or III NC Standard Inspection Certificate in building, electrical, plumbing or mechanical and ability to obtain all other Level II Certificates within two years of employment.   City offers incentives for achieving Level II and III Standard Certificates.    High school diploma or GED required, experience in the inspection specialties and construction trades, and possession of a valid, unrestricted NC Driver’s License is required with a good driving record.

This position functions as part of the Development and Design Team.  Our department structure and focus is to efficiently process projects to ensure all City requirements (zoning, building code compliance, watershed, etc.) are quickly & accurately executed to allow customers to proceed on a timely basis.  To support this culture, the successful candidate will help developers and customers be aware and comply with zoning and other City requirements beyond building codes.

Pay range for minimally qualified candidates is $48,322 - $72,483. Candidates possessing at least two Level III Standard Certificates and two Level III Probationary Certificates may be considered as a Sr. Inspector (pay range $55,939-$83,908).
