Alcohol Compliance Re-Check Ends With 3 Charged for Sell to Person Under 21

MDPS patch

On Saturday April 20th, officers with Morganton Department of Public Safety and NC Alcohol Law Enforcement Special Agents conducted a re-check of businesses to follow up on those who sold to minors during the first operation that took place in Fall of 2023. Of the businesses that were re-checked for compliance, 3 of the 10 sold again to a person under 21, in violation of NCGS 18B-302(A). Those businesses are below:

  • "Shop N Save" located at 1504 Bethel Road Morganton, NC
  • "Tobacco Barn II" located at 401 Old NC 18 Morganton, NC
  • "Dollar General Store #3105" located at 903 W Union St Morganton, NC

This is and will be a continued effort by MDPS and NC ALE to reduce the sale of alcoholic beverages to those under the age of 21. These operations are due to numerous complaints received from concerned community members, parents throughout the year, and incidents that we respond to involving alcohol and young people under 21. We appreciate the partnership with the community and other law enforcement agencies to continue addressing clerks who refuse to follow proper procedure and state law.
