Early Morning Structure Fire at Local Plant

On March 4, 2024 at approximately 3:18am, Members of the Morganton Department of Public Safety responded to 105 Wamsutta Mill Rd, Meritor Inc., in reference to a structure fire. Upon arrival, units located a room in the rear of the building with light smoke. The structure's fire suppression system was able to extinguish the fire before any widespread damage occurred.  The cause of the fire is believed to be a box of work rags that had spontaneously combusted.
