Lenoir Man Brandishes Firearm During Larceny

On March 2, 2024 at approximately 3:08 pm Morganton Public Safety officers responded to Lowe’s Hardware on Burkemont Avenue in reference to a larceny. During the investigation it was revealed that Jonathan Wesley Mays of 2001 Walt Arney Rd, Lenoir had stolen items from inside the store. When an employee from Lowe’s approached Mays it was reported that he drew a pistol from his waistband. When the firearm was observed by the employee they retreated as Mays got into a vehicle and left the scene. Morganton Criminal Investigations Division was contacted and continued the investigation. On March 4, 2024 warrants were issued on Mays for robbery with a dangerous weapon by Morganton Criminal Investigations and served by Lenoir Police Department. Mays is being held at the Caldwell County Detention Facility under a $100,000.00 secure bond.
