ACC Chili Cook-off returns in-person, accepting entries

29th Annual ACC Chili Cookoff

Can you smell the return of savory spices in the air? We thought so! The 29th Annual Downtown Development Association’s ACC Chili Cook Off presented by Burke County Farm Bureau Insurance is back on the court and in-person on Thursday, March 9th from 11:00am to 1:30pm at the Morganton Community House, 120 North King Street.

The DDA is planning the best event yet for your taste buds to enjoy. We invite you to come enjoy top notch chili from both amateur chefs and commercial restaurants! Our select panel of highly trained chili eating judges will crown the best chili in each category. Sample them to see if you agree with their taste buds! Tickets are $7 and include all-you-can-eat chili with all the fixin’s including cornbread, salad, dessert and a drink. Can’t stay to dine in with us? Order your chili to go! Delicious chili is not the only thing to look forward to this year as we bring back our big screen televisions, watching the b-ball game while you visit with friends inside the comforts of the Morganton Community House. We will offer interactive basketball games to win prizes and you can have your photo taken with our new red hot chili pepper mascot! Tickets are available for purchase before the event from DDA Board Members, online, at the Main Street Office or the day of, at the door!

Abby Nelson, Main Street manager said, “We are so excited to have the ACC Chili Cook-off back in-person this year. Since our last in-person cook-off in 2019, we’ve got new recipes and new restaurants that are eager to compete. It’s going to be amazing.”

Kasey Goodfellow, community events coordinator, said “After two years of having a drive-thru event, we can’t wait to have attendees back inside The Community House and have local restaurants and friends back in the kitchen. The DDA has gained a red hot chili pepper mascot, interactive basketball games, delivery service to downtown and an undeniable team spirit that can’t be beat. Please join us on the court, I mean in the Community House, to sample delicious chili, visit with friends, watch the ACC basketball game and show your support to the chili contestant that warms you up the most! This event is sure to be a slam dunk.”

For those who think their chili recipe has what it takes to win, you can enter it in the competition. Applications for amateur and commercial chili recipes are now available online at downtownmorganton.com. Make sure to mark your calendar and prepare your taste buds for a wild ride!
