City continues success in workplace safety
Morganton, NC – April, 5, 2023
Workplace safety has always been a priority at the City of Morganton and that was proven this week as numerous departments were awarded by The North Carolina Department of Labor.
The NCDOL Safety Awards Banquet was held on Tuesday at the Morganton Community House where ten different departments were recognized with gold and silver awards.
The criteria to receive gold award is the rate of days away from work, job transfer or restriction due to an injury must be at least 50% below the industry average. Nine different departments were given gold awards including:
First Consecutive Year - Cemetery and Grounds, CoMPAS Cable and the Water Treatment Plant.
Second Consecutive Year - Water Distribution and Collection
Third Consecutive Year – City of Morganton Municipal Auditorium
Ninth Consecutive Year - Community House, Main Street Office and the Development and Design Department
Tenth Consecutive Year – Administrative Department
The Public Works Department was given a silver award. The criteria to receive a silver award is based only on cases with days away from work. They are recorded when the worker misses at least one full day of work, not including the day of the injury.
City of Morganton City Manager Sally Sandy said, “I am truly thrilled for these departments and their efforts to keep each other safe. That has and always will be a standard we hold very high.”
